Edito de Bach: Fugue XVIII in G Sharp MinorTaking a break from his conducting duties at the helm of the Academy of Ancient Music,
Richard Egarr returns to the solo harpsichord music of J. S. Bach with this first volume of the 48 preludes and fugues that make up the
Well-Tempered Clavier. The work?s ambitious design, which couples a prelude and a fugue in each of the major and minor tonalities, reveals Bach?s highly personal genius for boundless invention within the framework of two fixed forms. For this, his sixth harmonia mundi recording of the music of Bach, Richard Egarr employs a harpsichord by Joel Katzman modeled on a 1638 Ruckers original, re-voiced in quill and tuned according to a system which recent research suggests may have been Bach?s own.
