Edito de Adhika, Adhika [1953] (Unfairly)?ena Ntallia [Dalia] (1934 - 2000) ; singer
Rena Dalia (real name Eleftheria Papacosta) was born in 1934 or 1935 in Patra and died in 2000. An authentic rebetiko voice, she was one of the best singers of rebetiko and popular songs.
Dalia came to Athens in 1950-1951 where she met Yiannis Papaiannou who, impressed by her voice and her looks, asked her to work with him at Vasilis Heilas? Triana club where he was then appearing. Dalia accepted, thus launching her great career alongside Papaioannou. In 1953 she met Manolis Chiotis and mediated for him with Papaioannou to set up a group comprising the three of them which was to become a great success. She became one of the biggest names in popular nighclub acts, singing long songs for hours. Success came quickly as her talent was recognized by her admiring public.
In 1954, Dalia went to the US for the first time with Papaioannou, where she appeared at the Greek nightclub Byzantio in New York on a three-month contract. She was so successful she extended her stay to 10 months, recording songs for the Liberty label that became hits. Afterwards she frequently travelled abroad but also appeared in nightclubs in Greece, continuing to make records.
In the US she married and returned to live in Greece with her husband in the 1970s. During her career Dalia knew fame and fortune but died at the age of 65.
