Edito de A Little ReminderFists of Love blasts off on their debut CD, featuring dissident, daring, existential, psychedelic drama rock from the heartland. Created as the band solidified, it was features two line ups, recorded in two studios (first by Brian Olive, later by eventual bassist, John Curley).
Not ones to be easily categorized, Fists of Love cite everything from Velvet Underground to Mazzy Star as in?uences, which explains how their sound ranges from psychedelic rock to edgy, dark melodies. Song themes vary from love to loss, to a quirky number about a rock band with a songwriter dilemma.
Conceived by songwriters Donna Jay Rubin and Chris Schadler upon Rubin?s return from the west coast, Fists of Love began as a three-piece joined by drummer Mathew Arnold (Mallory) in 2008. Cedric Rose soon replaced Arnold on drums and shortly thereafter the band became a four-piece when Mike Weinel (High and Low, Brian Olive) joined on bass. Nearly a year later Mike was replaced by John Curley, and the four continue to play and contribute to Cincinnati?s music scene.
