Edito de Unhinged Take #2Pianist Mark Latimer's recent debut recording grabbed the attention of the critics who described it as being "like an explosion in a munitions factory"..."a bat out of Hell"...and "the definitive one-off". He is a keyboard artist of phenomenal technique and steadily growing compositional skill and is one of the few musicians to have mastered both classical music and jazz.
Reflecting Latimer's all-round musical interests, the material for this recording is drawn from his own original compositions alongside arrangements of a piece by Mahler, a Domenico Cimarosa sonata and Coltrane?s Giant Steps. And he has assembled a hard-hitting group of musicians to explore this demanding material. These include guitarist John Etheridge, multi-reedsman Andy Panayi and bassist Mario Castronari. As the critic John Fordham says in his liner notes, together they deliver "a fascinating new album."
