Edito de Sick ElectricityFLESH features the ice - machine vocals of Sharon Martin, whose only previous release was a version of Vic Godard?s Make Me Sad. This 7? single was released on Hamburg label Aufgeladen und Beriet as part of Sharon?s university honours thesis, which was based on the cataclysmic effect Vic Godard & the Subway Sect had on the nascent Scottish independent music scene when they played Edinburgh in 1977 as part of the White Riot tour. Seeing the Subway Sect inspired the formation of Orange Juice / Josef K / Fire Engines, all of whom went on to become pivotal elements of Postcard Records (Glasgow) and Fast Product (Edinburgh).
Flesh take aesthetic inspiration from POP icons Richard Hamilton and Andy Warhol, sonic inspiration comes in equal parts from James Chance & the Contortions x the Chic Organisation.... kinda like if Shalamar had signed to Ze instead of Solar.
Flesh release their debut album, Sick Electricity, in Jan 2011. The album is produced by former Altered Images drummer / guitarist Stephen Lironi, the project is managed by Douglas MacIntyre (The Creeping Bent Organisation). Stephen and Douglas first hooked up whilst still at school in Scottish independent group Article 58, who released one single (produced by Postcard Records? Alan Horne & Malcolm Ross) before disbanding during an acute bout of teenage existential angst in the aftermath of a tour supporting Josef K.
Thereafter Stephen went to work with Edinburgh?s Fast Product label before joining Altered Images for their final album ?Bite?, which was produced by Mike Chapman and Tony Visconti. In recent years Stephen has concentrated on production work, with great success (Black Grape / Hanson / Space etc). He has also worked in the studio with some of his favourite musical visionaries including Alan Vega, Brian Wilson, Tom Verlaine, Jah Wobble, ..among others.
Douglas set up the Creeping Bent Organisation, which is an independent company based in Glasgow, concentrating on recording / publishing / management (Fire Engines, Gareth Sager, Sexual Objects, Future Pilot AKA, The Nectarine No9, Vic Godard).
