Edito de Little MoviesMICHAEL JERLING - LITTLE MOVIES Little Movies marks Michael's first CD of new songs since his 1997 Waterbug release, In Another Life. Recorded primarily in his home studio in Saratoga Springs, NY, and mixed at Scott Petito's NRS Studio in Catskill, NY, the album features Michael singing and playing 6 and 12 string acoustic guitar, harmonica, mandolin, and keyboards. Tony Markellis' acoustic fretless bass line kicks off the CD with Dawn Patrol, a vivid, Latin-tinged portrait of a gated retirement community. Old Henry's House follows with the tale of an old man's passing, as Michael's lone mandolin is joined by Teresina Huxtable's foot powered reed organ and Kevin Maul's haunting acoustic slide guitar. The song could be a documentary filmed with a handheld camera. The cinematic theme is carried on in Angelina, a dark, crime spree flick, Last Natural Man's futuristic 12 string guitar saga, the Cold War spy movie setting of Dirty Little War, and the familiar small town black & white charm of "It's a Wonderful Life". Other notable songs include the funky medieval send-up of In the Middle Ages, a tongue-in-cheek paean to The Weather Channel, Sweet Soul Music, a story set in the Memphis of Stax Volt r&b and M.L. His career began in the early 1970's touring and recording with the David Bromberg Band, has worked with Paul Siebel, Rosalie Sorrels, David Amram, Paul Butterfield, and most recently has toured nationally and recorded with Trey Anastasio of Phish fame. Kevin Maul is perhaps best known for his years of touring with Robin & Linda Williams, and has appeared on dozens of recordings, including his own 1997 release, Toolshed. Kevin played dobro, pedal steel, and acoustic slide guitar. . Teresina Huxtable added her talents on reed organ and accordion. Teresina is a member of the trio Huxtable, Christensen, and Hood whose two albums, Wallflowers on Philo, and Melancholy Babies on Front Hall Records are prized collector items and feature Teresina's considerable song writing talents. Michael and Teresina have been married sixteen years, and she often joins Michael in upstate NY performances. Danny Whelchel is a fine young drummer/percussionist originally from Lafayette, LA. Bob Warren adds his smooth voice, and is a fine singer songwriter in his own right. Bob is finishing work on a new project, but check out his 1999 CD, Love Walked In. Aaron L. Hurwitz plays Hammond organ on Sweet Soul Music, and has recorded and produced CDs by The Band, and with individual members Levon Helm and Garth Hudson, and currently performs with Professor Louie & the Crowmatix.
