Edito de IntoxThe first blink of an eye tells us that the two major names are THE YOUNG GODS and Y FRONT here. I do not wish to further polish the merits of Y FRONT, if you're interested in a band whom we rated 10 out of 10 and haven't thought about lowering that score, check out our Y FRONT review here. Their two tracks featured, namely Mellow Cosmos and Daft Boyz give a nice overview on their first LP. As for THE YOUNG GODS, their two tracks featured (In the Otherland, Astronomic) moves towards the chilling electronica soundscapes and the heldback, soundtrackish minimal-house, eased up by wickedly churning baselines and background synths, hullo, it's thirty minutes until midnight, our topic is the terrifying situation of the local musical scene.
ELECTROBOLT (who otherwise open this compilation) presents three different styles: the arc moves from new groove (mix up The Prodigy with alternative rockers with a bad haircut, having their cigarettes up their noses, their music makes me imagine that, otherwise it's got the groove and party animals will tell me I'm right) through space rock to experimental rock. PEEPING TOM, on the other hand, gives us two tracks, one dripping with jazz, the other with triphop and then at 3:40 the lounge is ripped apart by a decent groove, hullo, our party section is coming up, you can win two free tickets for the next Intoxygene party, our question is the following.
VIRTUART is responsible for the hard and technoid side of this compilation - Fantomas didn't make us associate to the film series, though we thought it would be an ideal soundtrack to the FPS called XIII, giving a solid retro feeling with a fast thumping beat. Their other track, called 5X St Ex makes me think about Scan X [also French] from Laurent Garnier's stables, this is the track that's really an odd-one-out on the album and also the one that I like the most apart from Y Front's stuffs, possibly because its nostalgy value. The compilation ends with FRANZ TREICHLER (of The Young Gods)'s ambient opus sounding like the collaborative album of Hybryds and Vidna Obmana without dolphin samples.
All in all, we're talking about compilation of mature and pretty much radiofriendly tracks - yes, we're telling you that they're not partyfriendly, but Bach wasn't partyfriendly either in today's sense and still, he's still way up on today's top lists. If everything goes as planned, later legal representatives of these bands will get really, really rich with the heritage.
