Lionel Loueke was born in the small West African nation of Benin. By the age of 17 he had mastered a variety of indigenous percussion instruments, evident in the soulful, enigmatic, and adventurous music he writes and performs today. Since devoting himself to the guitar, he's become one of the most sought-after guitar players by jazz luminaries like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and Terence Blanchard.
