Edito de Glyn MacDonald Trio
The Glyn MacDonald Trio has been wowing audiences with their original jazz for some five years now and in that time have performed with such jazz greats as James Morrison, Terrell Stafford, Judith Durham and Matthew Jodrell. "Glyn serves it up. He isnt into just playing chords and devices but rather describing things with music, describing specific feelings or abstract concepts. He has a vision and his music will 'take you there' if you allow it. The open spaces of Western Australia are heard as are imagined landscapes of futuristic lands. Do ya head a favour, check out Glyn" -Barney Mcall (New york pianist) Pianist and leader Glyn MacDonald has performed internationally in festivals such as Wigan, Glasgow and Vancouver Jazz Festivals and his original music has been recorded and aired by CBC radio (Vancouver), ABC (Perth) and RTR (Perth). The trio, made up of Sam Anning (Bass), Michael Perkins (Drums) and Glyn MacDonald (Piano) perform original jazz that is both beautiful and serene yet rhythmic and powerful. The group draws influences from Classical to Latin and groove based music and coupled with their infectious swing they are one of Australia's premier original jazz trios. "This is the first album from pianist Glyn MacDonald's trio, but it avoids the debutante trap of being too eager to please. MacDonald plays with style and restraint, and Sam Anning (Bass) and Michael Perkins (Drums) follow suit. The three men bounce ideas off each other with practised ease. MacDonald also impresses as a composer. His melodies refuse to follow predictable routes, and his harmonies twist away from sugariness. Matthew Jodrel (trumpet) and Carl Mackey (saxophone) contribute excellent guest performances. When all five musicians play together, it's not hard to be reminded of the Miles Davis Quintet". Peter J Casey Canberra Times (Jazz Reviewer) The music on their self-titled album is an all original affair featuring two of Australia's great horn players - Matthew Jodrell (Trumpet/fugal horn) and Carl Mackey (Alto and Tenor Saxophone). Not only is the music of an international standard but so too is the sound quality. This album truly stands out for its warmth and beauty captured so wonderfully by engineer Lee Buddle. Hearing the Glyn MacDonald Trio live is a truly captivating experience and fans of the group will now be able to revel in the warm acoustic sounds on the album at home too! " Glyn MacDonald's Trio is an exciting and extremely talented band from Perth. Their music is a mix of startlingly original compositions and jazz standards. It is played with the ease that comes from superb individual talent that has come together with the belief that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. On this CD they are joined by the prodigious talents of Matthew Jodrell on trumpet and Carl Mackey on saxophone. This is the new wave of West Coast Jazz!!" Peter Kenyon, JAZZWA. "Glyn MacDonald is a talented pianist from Australia, the land down under. I was asked to evaluate his latest CD. Upon listening, I was reminded of a movie a couple of years ago called, "The Talented Mr. Ripley", which had the same musical influences from Miles Davis, Lester Young, Bud Powell and other jazz greats from the 50's. The recording is sharp and tight knit. All of the compositions are original, which is a great accomplishment considering most classic jazz CD's out there contain one or two tracks from someone else. I enjoyed the tracks, "City Lights" and "2nd set at the Supper Club" which displayed the impressive talents of Carl Mackey and Matt Jodrell on Trumpet and Saxophone. The Glyn MacDonald Trio provides music for Jazz lovers to listen to on a lazy evening". 3½ stars out of 4 Mike James Smooth Jazz and More Radio "...an impressive young pianist who explored the musical possibilities with an enquiring mind and virtuosic skill. Watch this space!!........." Helen Matthews Jazz Program Producer Perth International Arts Festival Lire la suite
