It is an unreligious spirituality of sound prayerfully singing towards hope in the face of failure and great loss. Unique charm and a dynamic sensuality ooze from the jazz / blues vocals. The band stages a beautiful and supportive scene. This is an album Gaslight District recorded back in 98. It cries with such soulful elegance. The album is not attempting to impress other musicians, or to show off by the rock star ambitions of today. It is work made for it's own sake, and one need only listen to hear this inspired union. This album represents a collaborative effort of its core musicians, as well as the production and engineering talents of Blair Sutherland at Counterpoint Studios. The members of Gaslight District have continued on enduring and creating in many different incarnations, and will soon be releasing many more CDs in the near future. But this simple Orange CD entitled GD will always be listened to as presently as when it was recorded. It is an timeless effort, albeit obscure. Call it torch, jazz, blues, or soul. Regardless of however one would label this sound, you can count on being able to hear and feel the rasa of this work, and the long eternal wail of the blues triumphantly rising up out of the vocals.
