James Lyon graduated with Distinction from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied violin with Charles Castleman and chamber music with the Cleveland Quartet. As violinist with the Harrington Quartet he has performed with members of the Tokyo Quartet and the Lincoln Center Chamber Players, as well as winning the Grand Prize of the 1987 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. He has been an artist-in-residence at the Round Top International Music Festival and has served on the faculty of the Eastern Music Festival and Sessione Senese per la Musica e L'Arte in Siena, Italy. Mr. Lyon has been heard in radio broadcasts from Chicago, New York and Los Angeles, as well as on Italian National Television and CBS television's Sunday Morning with Charles Kuralt. He currently teaches at Penn State University and The Quartet Program and performs as violinist with the Carujian Quartet, the Castalia Trio and Duo Concertant, as well as serving as concertmaster of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra. Recent tours have taken him to Jordan, where he performed as soloist with the National Conservatory Orchestra in a concert attended by Queen Noor, and the People's Republic of China, where he performed with the Castalia Trio in several of the nation's major cultural centers. Mr. Lyon has conducted orchestras in Italy and the United States and has served as "Educator in Residence" for the Altoona Area School District, where he conducted a festival performance of string students from the entire public school music program. He was recently honored by the Pennsylvania-Delaware String Teachers Association as Collegiate String Teacher of the Year for his consistent demonstration of the highest standards of teaching excellence and was recently selected for inclusion in "Who's Who in American College Teachers". Mr. Lyon's students have performed as concertmasters of the World Youth Symphony, the Pennsylvania All-State Orchestra, and the Cleveland Youth Orchestra, as well as numerous school orchestras. Marylène Dosse, piano Identified by Vienna's Die Zeitung as a "superior talent" and praised by the Cincinnati Enquirer as "an outstanding musician, a thorough delight, an adventure, a discovery," Marylène Dosse is an artist of international stature. Dosse has performed extensively in France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, England, Switzerland, Greece, Luxembourg, Mexico, South America, North Africa, and in most major cities in the United States. After a series of recitals in Lincoln Center, Raymond Ericson of The New York Times said, "She plays with ease, showing marked concern for color, and rhythmic and melodic finesse." She has made numerous live television appearances in Europe and the United States. In 1997 Dosse toured Japan for a series of recitals, lectures, master classes and private coachings. The following year, along with the Castalia Trio, she went to China (Beijing, Jinan, Nanjing, and Shanghai) where she performed trio concerts and performances of Beethoven's Triple Concerto. In April and August 2000 Dosse played the complete cycle of Beethoven's piano and violin sonatas in Buenos Aires with violinist Marianne Behrendt. Together they will present the cycle in Paris Salle Gaveau in January 2002. Dosse has released over twenty recordings on the Vox and Pantheon labels, performances which have been broadcast over major radio stations worldwide. Included are recordings of the complete piano works of Saint-Saëns and Granados. The latter was chosen as best recording by High Fidelity Magazine. Her discography also includes rarely heard concertos by Massenet, Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Gounod, Lalo, Pierné, Mendelssohn, and F.X. Mozart, as well as many solo works of the French repertoire from Chabrier to Poulenc. A new recording of Dello Joio's two piano and four hand works with Debra Torok is scheduled for release at the end of this year by Albany Record. After winning first prizes in the Paris Conservatory and two international prizes in Salzburg and Naples, she studied in Vienna with Paul Badura-Skoda and Alfred Brendel. Marylène Dosse has been a guest faculty member of Indiana University-Bloomington and artist-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin. She is currently Professor of Music at The Pennsylvania State University where in 1991 she was elected a Fellow of the Institute for the Arts and Humanistic Studies and the only woman in this very select group. Dosse was the winner of the 1999 Faculty Scholar Medal for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts and Humanities. Marylène Dosse is part of the Penn State resident Castalia Trio. Lire la suite
