Edito de Character AmourTape Recorder Three first manifested in the summer of 2003, when its originator, Todd Zack, was commissioned to record the soundtrack to an independent horror film. The film fell apart, due to financial difficulties (never uncommon), but the soundtrack drew interest from numerous corners of the New Haven music scene. We thereafter contracted a studio engineer (in the summer of 04'), and pursued further recordings in the spirit of pure experimentalism; discovering in the interim that we had a knack for writing song lyrics, and that we were having a lot of fun. Blending high literature with comic book surrealism, pop song sensibilty with hedonic crypticism, low fi Nashville-esque production with minor studio gloss; Tape Recorder Three has emerged as a 21st Century Post Punk Force, incorporating elements of blues, reggae, and classic country, into a generally heavier, denser, guitar driven wilderness of dark foreboding sound.
"Track one and you're hooked. A renaissance of early 90's withdrawn cool." -Alex Davis 'FREE-magazine.co.uk'
"As God is my witness, the lyrics Zack slaps down on this record are superb. Amazing. Enlightening, and worthy of being xeroxed and carried around in your wallet."-Todd Beamis 'Indie-Music.com'
"One of the reasons that the major music labels are rapidly becoming irrelevant is that there isn't one of them that would put out something like CHARACTER AMOUR. (This) is one of the few alternative rock CD's I have heard in years that is worth listening to, repeatedly, all the way through, time and time again. Highly recommended."-Joe Hartlaub 'music-reviewer.com'
