Edito de Can Everyone BeginWith his clear and pure voice, inspired lyrics, and catchy melodies, Jack Woods is turning heads wherever his thumb takes him. The 20-year-old musician has traveled from California to Maine, and many places inbetween. Drawing upon classic artists like Bob Dylan and David Bowie, and mixing it with modern sounds like Bright Eyes and Beck, Jack makes it his own and creates a fresh vibe he dubs "newfolk". In this new genre, Jack works to find the balance between consonants and chords. "Music and lyrics have to work in synergy," he says, "If the words make you want to tear your heart out, so should the guitar."
Jack has been writing songs as long as he can remember. "When I was a kid, I would sit on a wall by my house and sing myself songs when I got lonely; i just never stopped." As Jack matured, so did the depth and content of his lyrics. "All of my lyrics are very personal. It's important to keep yourself in the song, whether you're the subject or the storyteller. If you aren't feeling and living a song, then why play it?"
Jack has developed quite an online following, with fans from all across the US and Canada eager to see and hear him live. So, what inspired him to leave college and become a starving artist? With a smile he answers, "I guess I'm making music because I can't keep a 9 to 5."
